Alta Lubricants, a subsidary of Alta Fuels, started out over 50 years ago in Alamosa, CO as “Mortensen Oil” owned and operated by Courtney “Corky” Mortensen who continues to work in the Alta business today. Eventually turning the company over to his son, Dan Mortensen, Alta grew rapidly with the purchase of Sunwest Oil and Winco, fuel distributors in Alamosa.At the time, on the lubes side of the business, Alta sold mostly Valvoline and Texaco lubricant products, until December of 2000, when an ExxonMobil distributor deal was signed.
